1. по умолчанию роутер имеет IP адрес 192.168.1. Маска подсети- 255.255.255.0, выставляется на вашем компьютере. Имя пользователя и пароль—admin. Заполняем поля и жмём Eneter;

На этом подключение вашего Lynksys WRT54GL к компьютеру заканчивается. Переходим к настройкам интернет и WiFi точки доступа.

What to Do When You Can’t Access the Router

By default, you should be able to access the WRT54GL router through the http://192.168.1.1 address. If not, it just means that it’s been changed since the router was first set up.

All you need to find the router IP address is the default gateway of a computer that’s currently connected to the router. You don’t have to reset the whole router like you do when the password is lost (however, if you do reset the router, the default IP address is restored, too).

See How to Find Your Default Gateway IP Address if you need help doing this in Windows. The IP address you find there is the one to enter in the web browser URL bar to access the router.

WRT54GL v1.1 Firmwares

Staying up to date with the latest firmware is a good idea to keep your router even more
secure
from various security flaws.
If you want to squeeze a little bit of extra functionality out of your router, consider
flashing
an open-source firmware like dd-wrt, openWRT or LEDE. Flashing a custom ROM can greatly
increase
the stability and functionality of your old router.

Following are the firmwares that we have identified existing for the Linksys WRT54GL v1.1:

Flashing dd-wrt on the Linksys WRT54GL v1.1

Since the WRT54GL v1.1 has 4 MiB of flash memory, you should choose a
stripped down version of dd-wrt that fits on the smaller flash.

Note: Always make sure to read the wiki and howtos of dd-wrt before doing any
flashing.

Flashing OpenWrt on the Linksys WRT54GL v1.1

The Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 is supported by OpenWrt according to their Table of
Hardware. So
flashing OpenWrt onto it should be quite straigthforward.

To get started with the flashing, head over to the

and they’ll take it from there.

Note: Flashing custom firmwares is always on you’re on own risk. Make sure to
read OpenWrt’s wikis to understand the risks and how to proceed if something goes
wrong.

Help! The WRT54GL Default Password Doesn’t Work!

If the default password for your Linksys WRT54GL doesn’t work, it most likely just means that it’s been changed from admin to something more secure (which is a good thing). To restore the custom password to the default password, reset the router to its factory default settings.

To reset the WRT54GL router:

1. Turn the router around so you can see the back where the antennas and cables are plugged in.

   Linksys

2. Make sure the power cable is firmly plugged in.

3. Press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds. Use a paperclip or something that’s small enough to fit in the hole

   The Reset button is on the left side of the back of the WRT54GL, near the Internet plug.

4. Release the Reset button, then wait 30 seconds for the router to reset.

5. Unplug the power cable for a few seconds, then plug it back in.

6. Wait for 30 to 60 seconds for the router to fully boot up.

7. Access the WRT54GL router through a web browser at the default IP address: http://192.168.1.1. Since the password has been reset, enter admin to log in.

Don’t forget to change the password now that it’s back at the default, which isn’t secure at all. Store the new password in a free password manager if you’re concerned that you’ll forget it again.

At this point, to re-enable the wireless internet and other custom settings like DNS servers, re-enter that information. Resetting the router doesn’t only remove the password but also any custom changes you’ve made to it.

After you’ve made any wanted changes, back up the router configuration so that you can restore those changes in the future if you ever have to reset the router again. You can learn how to do this on Page 21 of the user manual (there’s a link to the manual below).

1. в этом же разделе меняем маску подсети и адрес внутреннего интерфейса роутера. Это позволит использовать ваш MAC адрес для выхода в интернет. Изменения вносим в поля закладки MAC Adress Clone;

• DDNS — вкладка для настройки службы Dynamic DNS;
• Advanced Routing — вкладка, через которую можно выбрать RIP протокол (динамическая маршрутизация), а также два режима работы Gateway либо Router.

1. в диалоговом окне «Setup» выбираем «Basic setup». Устанавливаем часовой пояс;

1. в меню Wireless выбираем Mixеd. Режим работы 802.11b и 802.11g;
2. в поле Wireless» network name (SSID) вводим название беспроводного подключения;

3. в поле «SSID Broadcast» желательно отключать рассылку для обеспечения защищенности сети;

1. вменю Wireless переходимк Wireless security. Устанавливаем режим WPA2 или WPA. В случае невозможности поддержки вашим оборудованием этих режимов, используем WEP. Не допускайте открытия вашей сети;
2. в случае выбора режимов шифрования WPА2/WPА, используется следующая конфигурация:

• Security mode — желательно выбрать WPА2/WPА;
• WPА algоritms — выбор TKIP+AES предоставляет возможность одновременной работы WPА2/WPА;
• WPА Shared key — выбранный вами пароль для входа в сеть;

• Group key Renewal — промежуток времени через который происходит смена ключа;

1. в случае WЕP режима шифрования:

• Default Transmit key — используем номер ключа по которому происходит шифрование;
• WEP Encription — максимальный размер ключа шифрования;

• Passphrase — генератор ключей.

10. сохраняемся с помощью Savesetting.

1. вполе Secure Easy Setup (Wireless/Advanced Wireless) ставимгалочку Disable. Это позволит избежать изменения конфигурации маршрутизатора при случайном нажатии кнопок лицевой панели;

2. в меню Administration/Mаnagement;

Password и Re-enter to confirm повторно вводим пароль доступа к коммутатору:

• Access server — используем HTTPS;
• Wireless Access Web — используемполе Enable;
• Remote management — выключаем управление роутером из интернета;

• UPnP — набор протоколов, которые используются для автоматической настройки различными программами. Оставляем включённым.

1. Сохраняем изменения с помощью Save settings.

Ваш Lynksys готов к работе в интернет.

PPPoE для Ростелеком

Для подключения к этому провайдеру используем следующие шаги:

1. в разделе Steup переходим к вкладке Connection Setup. Используем тип подключения PPPoE;

2. заполняем поля User Name. Используем данные договора, либо обращаемся в службу техподдержки;

1. больше никаких изменений не требуется. Жмём Save Setting.

L2TP для Билайн

Подключение к Билайн проходит по следующему алгоритму:

1. заходим в раздел Sеtup, Basic Setup в выпадающем меню Internet Connection Type, останавливаемся на протоколе L2TP;
2. заполняем поля User name — Имя пользователя и логин указаны в договоре с провайдером;
3. в поле Password вводим пароль. Он указан в договоре;
4. в поле L2TP Server IP вводим IP адрес сервера VPN провайдера;
5. вполе Keep Alive: Redial Period ставимточку. Это необходимо для подключения к сети с указанным интервалом;

6. сохраняем изменения. Жмём Save setting.

yes I bought this from Linksys online tho I got a great deal 19.99 free shipping this is a great router I have used Linksys valet ect. and were great.. I can open my window and place this router on a cart and my friend can access it from bout 200-300 plus feet away thru his trailer to his kitchen with 4 bars only thing is with my window closed it don’t travel to him double pane glass. trying to figure out how to get it to work thru window..i really want to give 10 stars but not let me

Incredibly easy to install
I have had many routers over the years, and some worked better than others. Some worked hard in the background, while others needed periodically, and too frequently, to be rebooted. One thing they shared in common was being very difficult to install. Not so the Linksys E900. All you need to do is plug it in, and the software takes over. If you don’t have the installation CD, the software starts itself, goes online to download it, and takes over from there. You don’t need to do a thing. Honestly, it set itself up so easily that anyone can do it without the slightest knowledge of what they are doing. Kind of like doing your taxes with a software program — it walks you through the complicated stuff, and you don’t have to know anything about what is going on under the hood. I heartily recommend this router. Oh, and BTW, it puts out a strong signal that I can get all over my 3200 sq. ft. house, and has never needed to be reset.

Good router for the price — bad power supply
Purchased this router for my mother to use with her iPad. Router was an easy setup and is perfect for her needs. 2 weeks after I bought it she called me stating that it has stopped working and there were no lights lit. Power supply had gone bad. Purchased a universal power supply for her and router has been running ever since. The cord on the power supply for this is very tiny.

Excellent product
I bought this router to replace a similar one but different brand. It was so simple to install and works perfectly. The price was modest, which is definitely a plus. I wish I had bought this one before I spent close to a hundred dollars

Performed well for a brief time
Purchased new 1/12/13. Setup was a cinch. Clear, easy to understand instructions. Used MAC address filtering to limit access to a single laptop. Performance was excellent. Unit failed after 1 week. Traced problem to a faulty power supply. Used another power supply (same power rating, 12V 500mA) from a previous Linksys router. Unit powers up now. Hopefully just an isolated case with the failed power supply.

Simplicity = Simplicity
We needed a router due to having to change from U-verse to Charter when moving. We use two laptops and are not gamers. This was recommended by the resident geek girl at Office Depot. Followed instructions for «routine» install. Up and running fine in 15 minutes and so far no issues. Could not be more satisfied. Low cost, performed as promised and simple.

Super Easy Setup with no problems!
I had this set up in my apartment within 10 mins. On the box it said you could not connect more than 3 devices to the wifi but so far I’ve been able to have 8 devices connected at the same time! I can even reach the signal outside my apartment so for me it has good range. I’ve had this for almost a month now and so far so good!

Excellent Wireless Router
This unit works fine right out of the box. The firewall features allow for full control of connections. The admin feature can be accessed from both physical ports and wirelessly. The only thing I can fault them on is the packaging as there is nothing on the box about it even having firewall features.

В дальнейшем придерживаемся следующего алгоритма:

1. после выбора модели коммутатора, сайт предлагает большой выбор вариантов. Наиболее популярны Micro и Mini. Останавливаем выбор на mini;

2. делаем аппаратную перезагрузку маршрутизатора, удерживая клавишу RESET зажатой в течении 30 сек. Питание при этом остаётся включённым и скачиваем программу с сайта;

3. отключаем антивирус и firewall;

4. заходим в интерфейс браузера раздел Administration и выбираем Firmware Upgrade;

1. жмём обзор. Выбираем файл (расширение *.bin) и выбираем Upgrade;

В появившемся окне, коммутатор сообщает о процессе установки нового firmware dd-wrt и просит не прерывать процесс в течении нескольких минут.

1. после завершения установки, появится окно Upgrade is successful;
2. жмём Reset и ждём 10 секунд, после чего включаем питание;
3. выполняем аппаратную перезагрузку.

Не забываем изменить настройки роутера для просмотра видео IPTV (об этом говорилось выше).

После перезагрузки, Linksys WRT54GL готов к работе. dd-wrt поднимает рабочую частоту вашего роутера с 200 MHz до 250 MHz, не требуя при этом дополнительного охлаждения. Кроме упомянутой выше возможности IPTV, немецкий firmware превращает ваш маршрутизатор в Linux-сервер со всеми вытекающими возможностями.

Hard reset instructions for Linksys WRT54GL v1.1

If your WRT54GL v1.1 router is not working as it should, dropping connections or not
being
responsive, you should first do a reset of the router to see if the problems persist. Other
scenarios where you might want to reset your router is if you’ve forgotten the password or
misconfigured it and can’t get access anymore.

Your can reset your Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 in the following way(s):

Through the web interface

1. Open your browser and navigate to the router interface (check default settings below)
2. Under the Administration tab you will find a sub-tab called Factory defaults
3. On the Factory defaults page click the button labeled Restore Factory Defaults

With the reset button

1. Have your unit powered on
2. Press and hold the reset button for at least 10 seconds until the power light starts blinking, then release.
3. When the power light goes solid, unplug the power to the router for 10 seconds
4. Plug the power back in and start the router

Very Easy to setup (IPsec and VLan) and works!
After 3 weeks of frustration challenging with Cisco ASDM trying to setup an IPsec connection (to 3rd party company giving service to us) without any success (small network but little special setup due to failover and security). I bought a linksys LRT214 and unbelievably the whole setup was done in minutes! Since then, expanding connections and other changes has been done in a breeze. GUI is intuitive and straight forward. I have small network. But has everything on it including multiple web servers, db server, remote access,… LRT214 does the job perfectly. Currently have 2 of them on our network.

Great features, if you know how to configure them
I’d been having trouble with an old Netgear VPN (it was a gift) and decided it was time for an upgrade. As all my other equipment is Linksys, a brand which I have loved and used for years, I naturally sought a replacement from them. I bought the product through Amazon and it arrived new, in box and on time.

Setting up the router seemed straight forward enough. I used a crossover cable and connecting to my laptop to get the basic config done for my internal network settings (I have a home network with three WAPs and 34 devices connected via WiFi and CAT5). Once complete I brought the unit to my central connection point and swapped out the Netgear for my shiny, new Linksys. I could connect to the LRT214 interface from wired and wireless devices but had to Internet access. I checked and rechecked all the settings, then in desperation (two hours with no Internet) I changed a single setting — from «Router» to «Gateway». Internet started working and my connection speeds are exactly what I’m paying for.

I’m very happy with the device and will (eventually) spend time reading the full manual to figure out why having the unit set as a Router wasn’t working. For now, all is well with my network again.

Vulnerable to hackers
Don’t get this router if you’re going to setup as a PPTP VPN server.
I had it setup as a PPTP VPN server and hackers would always hang it up so that my users were unable to create VPN connections to it.
To its credit, whenever the VPN server was hung up, the local office users were still able to browse the Internet and everything, but remote users were unable to connect until someone in the office power off (and then powered on) the LRT214.
Also, when it was hung up, the Web GUI interface from the LAN side would also be unresponsive.

High Expectations. Low delivery
I bought my original LRT21 from amazon. I was attempting to do a simple Client to Gateway VPN setup, and support couldn’t figure out why it kept disconnecting. So they suggested an RMA, which I did, and after receiving my replacement, I am in the same situation.

I let engineering deal with my original ticket while I opened another one on a different issue: LAN to LAN connectivity between different devices. One would think basic connectivity between switch ports is an easy thing. Nope. My second router (non Linksys) can PING and see the LRT on the other side of it’s switch cable, but the LRT cannot see the non-Linksys router. For a business class device, this product falls far short of expectations.

Zero Problems
Have two LRT214’s on my corporate network for over two years now and have had ZERO problems, ZERO downtime related to them. Easy to configure, flexible and the OpenVPN works great. We are using all 5 OpenVPN tunnels on each one. Never had a problem. Highly recommended for small to medium high traffic networks.
